Amherst To Rum Island

The currents around this area are always a little unpredictable.

Our plan for the firs crossing was to paddle from Amherst to the north end of Forrest Island.  It was long before we realized that the ebb was going to men that we would need to paddle to Dock Island and then ferry across to Forrest.  It didn't take long after leaving Dock for the group to get dispersed over s large area.  About half way across I started paddling in a more northerly direction and still managed to just miss the northern tip of Forrest.  Once the group reformed we paddled south along the west shore.  From the south tip of Forrest we then made another crossing with the south west point of Gooch Island being out destination.  The current was still a factor so again we got spread out quite a bit.

We paddled along the southern shore of Gooch.  I had forgotten how long Gooch actually is.  There as no current to contend with until we came to the east point of Rum Island  We then landed at the little beach that separated Gooch and Rum we we had lunch.  Lisa had brought a cake for Heather who was celebrating her birthday.

After Lunch we paddle along the north shore of Gooch enjoying the push of the flood.  From Gooch we crossed over to Domeville and the up to Sheep where we check to see if the suspended out house was still there.  It was.

From Sheep we made the crossing over to Dock.  This was where the unpredictability of currents in the area were evident.  We start the crossing with a flood and then we had an ebb to contend with.

The rest of the paddle from Dock took us through the Little Group and then back to Amherst.

Thanks DaveC for a great day on the water.
